Frequently asked questions

Want to join the Alsterdorf team?

Regardless of age, economic or professional situation, we invite you to join the Alsterdorf Association’s team. We need people with empathy, responsibility and an inclination toward working with people with disabilities. Employee or volunteer, full-time or part-time — choose the form in which you’d like to join us. We look forward to it with great interest.

Who are the beneficiaries of our services today?

One category of beneficiaries consists of people with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities who were placed in institutional care by a decision of the Bihor General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection Commission.

Another category consists of people with disabilities who have left social care institutions and now live independently, or people who live with their families and were never institutionalized.

How can I sponsor a young person with a disability?

We have implemented a form of individual help through which anyone can directly support a person with a disability through a “godparent partnership.” You can consistently support a specific person with a set amount to cover monthly pocket money, birthday or name-day celebrations, participation in camps or trips, or involvement in various activities.

So far, we are a team of 20 people who regularly, on a monthly basis, support people from our homes. We have over 110 beneficiaries. Join this team too! Tell others about this form of help!

What is our mission?

The Alsterdorf Association represents the humanist image of the human being. A person has human dignity because they are a person. Human dignity does not depend on sex, age, nationality or religion, nor on each person’s capacity to undertake something, their state of health, their ability to communicate, or their degree of need for care or help.

In this sense, all people are equal before the law and have the same basic rights to freedom, self-determination and participation in society. People differ individually from one another. For the Alsterdorf Association, respecting this differentiation and the variety of human beings is an important part of our humanist conviction.

In order to recognize this differentiation and respect the diversity of people, the Alsterdorf Association sees it as its task to promote people with disabilities, taking into account their basic rights to self-determination, to facilitate their equal participation in society, and to offer them the necessary support and assistance for this.
