Home socio-educational assistance service

← All news

Through the Socio-Educational Assistance Service, we support people with intellectual disabilities in leading an independent life, outside of institutions. In this way we help them take the step toward an independent form of housing.

Here, specialized staff help beneficiaries find housing suited to their income, and after a preparation phase, help them leave the institutionalized care system for the housing they’ve found. Afterward, our clients benefit from a few hours of home assistance per week, which involves regular meetings between the specialist and the person being assisted, usually in their home, with the goal of supporting them to live within the community. The assistant makes sure their client makes every effort to lead an independent life: cooking healthily, maintaining proper hygiene in the home, building and maintaining appropriate contacts and relationships with neighbors, relatives or friends, knowing when, from whom, and how to ask for help when they can’t manage a certain situation, and maintaining normal relationships with coworkers or supervisors at work, etc.

All of this work is carried out following an individual and accurate analysis of the client’s support needs and precise planning of the steps to be followed. All the goals proposed in the assistance work are set together with the client with a disability, who is able to make decisions in all matters that concern them.

At this time, 8 people with disabilities benefit from home socio-educational assistance.

The costs of this service are covered solely by donations from various individuals. They have understood that, in this way, people with disabilities get a chance to leave the institution and integrate into the community — a community that, over many years, had labeled them as unable to recover and shut them away in institutions for people with disabilities.
