With the support of VELUX FONDEN, the Alsterdorf Association is running a pilot project in Romania to prepare young people with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities to lead an independent lifestyle.
In Romania, people with disabilities who live in institutions have very limited chances of leaving the institutionalized care system to live an independent, decent life. Through this project, we aim to support people with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities from institutions and families in finding a job on the labor market and finding affordable housing suited to their needs. Our work doesn’t stop there — we continue to offer assistance and support to people who have already moved into an individual form of housing. We are currently assisting 14 people with disabilities in their own homes, and more than 120 other people are enrolled in our preparation program for independent living. We plan, over the course of 2016, to run the social skills training and practice program, C.C.C., for these people, aiming to include 50 participants. The goal of this program is to build and practice shared skills in communication, cooperation and conflict resolution.
Anyone wishing to sign up to take part in these seminars is asked to contact us to receive details about this program.
